GEMS is hosting a Student Skills Showcase!

Did you know that sweet potatoes are not actually potatoes? Well, the fourth grade students learned that fact today when they took a trip to the GHS greenhouse. The students were given the opportunity to plant a flower and take it home.

Congratulations to Melissa Smith for being awarded as this year's PTO Teacher of the Year!

The strangest zoo you ever knew, is in the town of Wackadoo.
And people came for miles, it's true, to visit this crazy zoo!
You'll want to come too!

Here's some information from the GEMS kitchen.

The 2nd and 3rd grade classes had an amazing opportunity to take a trip to our local Green Acres Nursery. The students were able to learn about and make wildflower seed bombs to plant at home. They were engaged in learning about what plants need to grow as well. We want to thank Tiffany Zimmerman and the staff of Green Acres for hosting us. A huge thanks to Joel Wasem, Brent Chapman, and CHS Primeland for giving generous donations to make this learning experience a memorable one for our students.

We enjoyed an amazing hike in Hells Canyon. The students read the book The Canyon Door by Kevin Boos which is all about a hiking trip in Hells Canyon. The book focuses on the natural history, the Nez Perce history, the botany of the canyon, and the Snake River. This place-based field trip brought the book alive as we were able to hike where the book took place. This day was funded by the GEMS PTO. We could not have had the incredible experience without their support.

Mrs. Godfrey's kindergarten class celebrated Earth Day by picking up trash on the GEMS campus.

Thank you for supporting our Book Fair and joining us at Literacy Night. Our gross sales topped out at over $8100, which gives GEMS almost $4000 to spend in Scholastic Dollars to support our school to increase literacy, STEAM opportunities, and student engagement. We are grateful to be able to make fun memories with our students and families and appreciate all of the support!

The sixth graders had their traditional brunch with this year's theme of Titanic to align with their ELA unit. All of the centerpieces, name tags, and photo booth were made by Tiffany Jacobs. Thank you to all of the staff and families who made this an incredible experience!

Family Literacy Night was a blast! Thank you for attending to support the love of reading in your children.

We are looking forward to seeing you at our Family Literacy Night tomorrow from 5-7pm. We will be drawing every 30 minutes to win one of these amazing literary themed baskets from some of our favorite stories. Be sure to come on down for snacks, games, book swap, a chance to meet award winning author Annie Winston, and to visit our Book Fair!
